The Abduction from the Seraglio by Mozart is staged at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées in Paris, from June 3 to 12, 2026. This new production teams Laurence Equilbey in musical direction, Florent Siaud in direction, with Insula orchestra and accentus, presenting one of the composer’s greatest works from his youth.
Dating from 1782, The Abduction from the Seraglio, or Die Entführung aus dem Serail, sits squarely in the singspiel tradition—a German lyrical form that blends arias with spoken dialogue. The opera follows Belmonte as he sets out to rescue Konstanze, who is imprisoned in the palace of Pasha Selim, alongside Blonde and Pedrillo.
For this Paris-based production, the cast features Jessica Pratt in the role of Konstanze, Amitai Pati as Belmonte, Ante Jerkunica as Osmin, Brenton Ryan as Pedrillo, Manon Lamaison as Blonde, and Uli Kirsch as Selim. The scenography is by Romain Fabre, costumes by Jean-Daniel Vuillermoz, lighting by Nicolas Descôteaux, and video by Eric Maniengui.
The opera is performed in German, with French and English surtitles. The run time is listed at 2 hours 30 minutes, intermission included. A pre-premiere for under-30s is planned for June 1, 2026, ahead of the public performances on June 3, 6, 8, 10 and 12, 2026. The June 12 performance will be offered with audiodescription.
This revival is aimed in particular at Mozart opera lovers, audiences curious to discover a singspiel on stage, and the international public thanks to double surtitles. L’Enlèvement au sérail is to be seen at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, in the 8th arrondissement of Paris, for five performances in June 2026.
