For almost four decades, Le Double-Fond, in the heart of Paris's picturesque Marais district, has been a major institution in the world of magic and café-theatre. Since 1988, when it was founded by Dominique Duvivier, Le Double-Fond has staged over 90 shows, welcomed more than 200 international magicians and attracted almost 450,000 spectators.
The company's regulars include such emblematic figures of the magic world as Philippe de Perthuis, Quoc Tien Tran and Jean-Pierre Crispon. In this 50-seat Parisian showroom, you can also discover the father/daughter duo Alexandra and Dominique Duvivier, owners of the café, or simply Alexandra Duvivier in her one-woman show.
Anyone who loves magic, show business, costume parties and intimate moments will find Le Double-Fond a unique and immersive experience. Indeed, its unique concept of waiter-magicians is a feature that sets it apart from other establishments. Imagine yourself sipping your drink, when suddenly, magic invites itself to your table!
The design of this establishment is such that, on the first floor, you'll find a bar and a terrace where the waiter-magicians officiate. The basement features an intimate showroom, ideal for close-up magic shows.
As far as prices are concerned, several formulas are on offer, offering options to suit all tastes: whether for the pleasure of attending the show only, or for the complete experience of a dinner and show.
Entertainment and magic shows are scheduled from Thursday to Sunday, offering continuous entertainment by waiters/magicians and shows for all audiences or specifically for children.
Double-Fond offers corporate events, conferences on magic and its link with the business world, or shows - the choice is yours!
Whether you're a magic enthusiast, a fan of shows or simply looking for an original outing in Paris' Marais district, Le Double-Fond offers you the chance of an unforgettable moment.
Our verdict
The friendly terrace overlooking Place Saint Catherine is the perfect place to enjoy a coffee or cocktail. And then, surprise! We finally realize we're in an atypical magic/show café. The waiters offer to perform quick tricks for the customers, and they work! We were lucky enough to see a few of them, and were obviously fooled by the magic taking place before our very eyes!
Effective magic and a superbly placed terrace, a combo that's well worth the detour. If we want to continue the evening, we can go and see a show in the basement in an intimate room, allowing us to observe the magician's tricks. A word of advice: if you're sure you want to see the show, book in advance!
