As every year, the Les Étés de la danse festival invites an international company that will spend a few weeks in Paris. For this 2017 edition, the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater will perform at La Seine Musicale from July 4 to 22, 2017.

To mark its 13th edition, the Étés de la Danse festival lands for the first time on the Seine Musicale stage in Boulogne. The festival welcomes back, after its appearances in 2012 and 2015, the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, directed by Robert Battle.

This remarkable American company, acclaimed worldwide for the caliber of its dancers and the range of its choreographies, was born in March 1958 after a legendary performance at New York’s 92nd Street Y. Led by Alvin Ailey and a troupe of young African-American dancers, the show forever reshaped how people perceived American dance.

Since then, the company’s profile has been on the rise. Alvin Ailey always knew how to diversify his repertoire, and before his death in 1989 he named Judith Jamison as his successor. For nearly 21 years, the troupe’s iconic dancer brought unprecedented success to the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater.
