La Tresse, an adaptation of Laetitia Colombani’s novel brought to the stage by director Johanna Boyé, is heading to the Théâtre de la Renaissance in Paris from 25 September 2026 to 10 January 2027.

The Braid, a theatrical adaptation of Laetitia Colombani's novel, arrives at the Théâtre de la Renaissance in Paris from September 25, 2026. Directed by Johanna Boyé, this ensemble-driven drama with the feel of contemporary theater follows three women's journeys across India, Sicily and Canada.

Published by Grasset & Fasquelle, the novel La Tresse follows three interwoven paths. In India, Smita strives to give her daughter access to schooling and a way out of the life that confines her. In Sicily, GiuliaWorks in the family workshop before discovering that her father’s business is in jeopardy. In Canada, Sarah, a celebrated lawyer, finds her career and balance disrupted by illness.

On stage, this adaptation preserves the novel’s choral architecture, built from alternating settings, social situations, and intimate struggles. The production brings together these three women’s narratives around freedom, transmission, and resistance to the constraints imposed by family, work, or society.

The direction is by Johanna Boyé. The cast brings together Magali Caillol, Laetitia Colombani, or Jean-François Prigent, Blanche Leleu, Marina Pangos and Lara Tavella. The artistic team also includes Caroline Mexme on scenography, Cyril Manetta on lighting, Mehdi Bourayou and on music composition, Alice Touvet on costumes and Johan Nus on choreography.

With this leap to the stage, La Tresse speaks especially to readers of Laetitia Colombani’s novel, but also to audiences drawn to literary adaptations and contemporary stories built around interwoven lives. In Paris, the production will run at Théâtre de la Renaissance from September 25, 2026 to January 10, 2027, Thursdays through Saturdays at 7 p.m. and Sundays at 5 p.m.
