Girlhood, Annie Ernaux’s autobiographical account, returns to the stage in an adaptation by Pauline Ribat. The show will be staged at the Théâtre du Fil de l’Eau in Pantin on 5 and 6 November 2026, before a run at La Reine Blanche in Paris’s 18th arrondissement, from 25 November to 13 December.
The piece revisits the summer of 1958, when the 18-year-old Annie D. is working as a counselor at a holiday camp. Fifty years on, the writer examines this first sexual experience and the imprint it left. The narrative probes desire, the difficulty of saying no, and the dynamics of domination.
Pauline Ribat signs the adaptation with Vanessa Bettane and directs the staging. Lucie Epicureo and Victor Hugo Dos Santos Pereira lead the cast for a production by Compagnie Depuis l’Aube. This version fuses the memory of the young woman with the author’s retrospective gaze on her story.
Pantin’s two showings begin at 8 p.m. At La Reine Blanche, the one-hour performance plays on Wednesdays and Fridays at 9 p.m., and Sundays at 6 p.m. An extra session is scheduled for December 4 at 2:30 p.m. The Paris venue also offers a €10 ticket for those under 26.
