Carte blanche for JR at the Maison Européenne de la Photo

The famous photographer JR will be setting up shop at the MEP - Maison Européenne de la Photographie, from November 7, 2018. The famous photographer, known for his large-scale portraits of strangers pasted in giant formats in streets around the world, will have carte blanche, so surprise surprise!

For the reopening of the MEP, photographer JR has carte blanche for a major exhibition from November 7, 2018 to February 2019. For once at the MEP, JR will be able to occupy all the spaces of the MEP and will therefore not share the poster with other photographers in solo-shows.

With the help of exhibition curators Jean-Luc Monterosso and Dominique Bertinotti
the exhibition, JR will be able to use the space and bring the MEP to life with his renowned talent. For over 15 years, JR has travelled the world photographing strangers and displaying their portraits (or even their bodies) in the streets, thanks to the oversized collages that have made him famous.

JR 's art is displayed on buildings in the Paris suburbs (think of his INSIDE OUT project on the walls of Habitat & Humanisme residences), on walls
in the Middle East, on the broken bridges of Africa or in the favelas of Brazil.
For these large-scale projects, JR uses a large truck transformed into a mobile photo studio, enabling instant development. We've often seen him in Paris, at the Centre Pompidou in 2012, and in 2014, when he took over the Pantheon to create a tarpaulin covered with hundreds of portraits of Parisians for the renovation work, a way of bringing Parisians into posterity.
So, what does JR have in store for us at the MEP ? We'll have the answer on November 7, 2018.
