With her striking sculptures, Julia Haumont brings to life a universal experience many women recognize: the end of childhood and the dawn of a challenging yet exhilarating new phase—adolescence—marked by physical transformations and shifting perceptions of one's body.
The artist invites us into her world with the exhibition In My Dress, the Color of Time. Running from March 12 to April 25, 2026, it will be on view at the Les Filles du Calvaire Gallery in Paris.
This free exhibition features a series of sculptures depicting a young girl. At first, she is seen enjoying herself—dancing or practicing gymnastics, wearing a mask or red nail polish: sheplayfully interacts with her body, which is both a lifelong companion and a source of movement, unconcerned with how others might perceive her.
As she grows up and becomes a teenager, we see her dressed in her mother’s wedding gown: the fabric embodies a weight of contradictions. On one side are the youthful dreams, the fantasies of marriage, adulthood, and images of femininity and the future. On the other are the expectations—those demanding her body fit within the garment’s constraints, and a life that must conform to societal archetypes and traditional norms.
This young girl is going through a process of healing and self-discovery during this delicate and fragile period, when bodies, minds, and perceptions are constantly changing—sometimes almost daily. It’s that fleeting phase of adolescence where time both stretches out and speeds up at the same time.
This free exhibition awaits visitors between Beaubourg and Arts et Métiers, in the 3rd arrondissement of Paris.
