Until January 29, 2023, the musée Carnavalet provides a genuine discovery of the history of women’s emancipation, through the History of France. “Parisiennes citoyennes!” chronologically displays French women’s and especially Parisian women’s fight for their rights thanks to famous women like Olympe de Gouges or Gisèle Halimi, as well as many anonymous women.
From September 28, 2022, discover never-before-seen pictures of fights, manifestations and events, from the right to a homeland during the French Revolution to the granting of political equality in 2000. All materials are used to tell this incredible story. Among traces of claims, enjoy paintings, sculptures, photographs, movies, posters, banners, clothes, books... For a moving and complete state of play.
The exhibition gathers the memory of fights for women’s empowerment around the history of feminism in Paris, women often little-known and revolutionary, between Communards, suffragettes, pacifists, members of the resistance, groups of immigrated women and trade unionists. Explore the key dates of women’s rights, from the right to receive instruction to the freedom of decision over their own bodies, to the right to vote or access artistic creation, in an avant-garde city for many causes.
