L'Horizon de Khéops: an immersive VR journey to the heart of a pyramid, at Bercy Village

As you may remember, this experience was presented as a world preview at the Institut du Monde Arabe in Paris. Good news: it's back, to our great delight! From November 11, 2023, head to Bercy Village to immerse yourself inKhéops Horizon, an extraordinary immersive VR journey.

It's an event not to be missed, an extraordinary epic that many have dreamed of since childhood. Come and visit one of the seven wonders of the ancient world, an archaeological treasure trove, monumental proof of Egyptian architectural genius, dating back 4,500 years. This virtual expedition to discover the Great Pyramid of Cheops takes us to Egypt's Giza Plateau. L'Horizon de Khéops is one of the world's finest immersive journeys , without leaving the 12th arrondissement of Paris.

Emissive, a company specializing in augmented and virtual reality experiences, worked for three years with Peter Der Manuelian, professor of Egyptology at Harvard University and director of the Giza project. Scientific knowledge and cutting-edge technology come together to create a true-to-life experience.

Equipped with virtual reality equipment, you can wander freely along this extensive trail, discovering this time-tested masterpiece, one of the oldest man-made structures still standing.

With the help of a connected backpack and a headset, we travel instantly to the foot of King Cheops' tomb. For 45 minutes, our virtual guide Mona reveals all the secrets of the pyramid and its occupants. This augmented reality experience allows us to discover spaces closed to the public, richly decorated galleries, burial chambers... And even climb effortlessly to the top of the pyramid, to admire Cairo as it is today.

Our journey ends with a leap back in time: we're taken on a funeral barge on the Nile to attend the funeral of King Khufu, three thousand years BC.

This one-of-a-kind experience offers a truly exotic adventure: we find ourselves teleported to Egypt, crossing eras and exploring the bowels of the pyramid with a single step. The immersion is such that several visitors experienced unprecedented sensations on this journey. Immersed in this world in which you can move freely, some explorers say they felt the cold as they entered the pyramid, had sensations of friction as the figures passed close to them, smelled the incense used during the embalming ceremony... For our part, this larger-than-life expedition gave us vertigo: from the top of the pyramid, the sensation of emptiness is very real! No matter: the spectacle beneath our feet was more than worth the slight discomfort. It was a successful gamble for Emissive, who designed this marvellous journey.
