Beyond our Horizons lands in Paris: from January 29 to May 10, 2026, Galerie du 19M brings French artisans and Japanese creators onto the same thread. After delighting 75,000 visitors in Tokyo, the exhibition invites a journey where tradition and audacity intersect at every gesture. Embroidery, casts, feathers and metals become bridges between cultures and the arts and crafts.

From January 29 to May 10, 2026, La Galerie du 19M, tucked inside Chanel's fashion workshop, becomes the crossroads of craft and invention with Beyond Our Horizons, a free exhibition that links French artisans and Japanese designers. After drawing 75,000 visitors in Tokyo, the experience lands in the 19th arrondissement of Paris, with the same throughline: the meeting of know-how and audacity.

The Eleven Art Houses of 19M—including Atelier Montex, Desrues, Goossens, Lemarié, Lesage, Lesage Interiors, Atelier Lognon, Massaro, Maison Michel, Paloma, and Studio MTX—join forces with nearly thirty Japanese artists to present unprecedented works and collaborative projects. In this dialogue, thread, metal, and feather serve as the primary tools for a truly unique artistic exchange. Ten emerging talents are also making their debut in this Paris edition, bringing fresh perspectives and a wealth of surprises.

Under the curatorship of Momoko Ando, Yoichi Nishio, Shinichiro Ogata, Kayo Tokuda, and Aska Yamashita, every detail — embroidery, casting, modeling — demonstrates how heritage and innovation can beautifully intertwine and inspire each other. The exhibit’s scenography, designed by ATTA - Atelier Tsuyoshi Tane Architects, guides visitors through an immersive journey where textures, lighting, and installations encourage quiet reflection.

And for those eager to move from looking to doing, the 19M offers workshops, meet-and-greets, and performances for all ages—an opportunity to touch, manipulate, and create, immersing yourself in the hands-on craftmanship.

Beyond Our Horizons promises a sensory and creative journey, serving as a French-Japanese cultural bridge where each artwork tells a story, transcending the boundaries of the visible and inviting us to reimagine our relationship with the Crafts of Art.

Our opinion:

Beyond our Horizons: From Tokyo to Paris unfolds gently at the Galerie du 19M. The exhibition is intentionally minimalist, offering generous space around each piece, which encourages visitors to appreciate the diversity of techniques and the intricate, delicate details. Each artwork feels like a cherished object, uncluttered and refined.

The display guides visitors through several poetic worlds without feeling overcrowded, and this approach works beautifully. The airy layout adds depth to each piece and creates a calming, unworried atmosphere—quite the opposite of the often crowded exhibitions. Even though the display is housed within Chanel's fashion atelier, it’s not a fashion exhibit per se, but rather a showcase celebrating French and Japanese craftsmanship, accessible and engaging for all.
