At Easter, the egg is the season’s superstar: chocolate, praline, sugar, with surprises inside or not... It’s everywhere, and we’re not complaining. If you want even more, here’s good news: a quirky date awaits you in the heart of the Marais... The egg is the focal point of an exhibition presented at the Galerie Joseph in Paris’s 3rd arrondissement...
From April 3 to May 3, 2026, renowned pastry chef and chocolatier Frédéric Bau, together with the De Main de Maître association, present a one-of-a-kind, free-to-attend exhibition. Titled Eggxtraordinaire, it brings together 94 artists, artisans and pastry chefs. Each, armed with their tools and techniques, showcases and decorates their egg. The exhibition is free, but reservations are required.
Visitors can admire one-of-a-kind creations in chocolate, as well as artworks crafted from ceramics, textiles, wood, and paper. There are also sculptures made of iron and glass. Artistic expression and culinary craftsmanship come together and converse through this symbol of the egg, which continues to inspire both artists and chocolatiers alike.
With its rounded shape and its significance in creation, the egg has long been a symbol of life and renewal. During Easter, it represents the resurrection of Jesus Christ: this symbolism makes the egg a prominent motif during this season, appreciated both by the devout and by chocolate lovers indulging in the festive Easter eggs.
For this exhibition, 94 artists and craftspeople have imagined their own egg. Among them are Jeffrey Cagnes, Muriel Aublet-Cuvelier, Alain Ducasse and Quentin Gaigneux, Pierre Hermé, Hélène Kerloéguen, Florence Lesage, Christophe Morel, Patrick Roger, Mori Yoshida, Pascal Oudet, Victoria Tanto, Lison de Caunes, Laurent Fau... This 2026 edition also spotlights several rising talents, artists to watch in the years to come.
Do these decorated and displayed eggs look familiar? That's understandable: in 2023, the organization De Main de Maître already hosted the first edition of this unusual exhibition, highlighting around fifty chocolate eggs and original artworks. This year, in 2026, the exhibition has grown, showcasing new exclusive pieces... All to be admired with your eyes only!
Yes, a rich chocolate aroma wafts through the gallery, and these delectable creations are truly impressive. However, there is a strict no-touch policy, and of course no nibbling. You'll need to drop by a pâtisserie on the way back to satisfy your chocolate cravings.
This free exhibition is funny, surprising, original: a welcome breath of fresh air in Paris's cultural calendar. It should, however, attract a lot of people: it's advisable to book your visit slot during off-peak hours and to avoid the opening days of the exhibition. The paths in the gallery can be narrow, and your visit could be hindered by a crowd that’s too dense.
Also note that the exhibition spans two floors, but the Joseph Gallery has no elevator. Visitors with mobility issues may miss part of the route.
With family, friends, or on your own, enjoy this quirky and welcoming exhibition. Don’t miss this one-of-a-kind event, set to open this spring in the Marais.
