Father of Afrobeat, Fela Kuti is honored at the Philharmonie de Paris, with a musical exhibition to discover from October 20, 2022 to June 11, 2023.

A mix of free jazz, yoruba, soul and funk, a good dose of brass and percussion, and here we are with an unusual musical movement, as well thought out to celebrate as to give voice to the freedom movements of Nigerians. The Philharmonie de Paris is dedicating an exhibition to Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, the creator ofAfrobeat and one of the great political figures of Nigeria.

The Philharmonie de Paris tells us about the extraordinary life of this man, divided between music and politics, driven by a quest for freedom and justice for the poorest. The exhibition reveals the major influences and important elements of the life of this artist, in an unusual scenography.

This labyrinthine path leads us step by step to the center of the exhibition. Along the way, we can admire an exceptional collection of stage costumes, but also album and vinyl covers , photographs and unpublished archives, and of course numerous video and musical extracts. The Afrobeat Rebellion exhibition explores the artist's entire life: music, private life and political life fed on each other to form a whole. By discovering all aspects of his life and personality, we can better appreciate and understand Fela Kuti's music and the Afrobeat movement.

The exhibition takes us to the Shrine, the musician's club where he invented Afrobeat. In this privileged space, you can listen to and enjoy many of the songs that are representative of this energetic and catchy genre.
