Rediscover this aviation hero, outstanding pilot, daring adventurer and key player in the French Resistance.

The Musée de l'Ordre de la Libération in Paris pays tribute to the exceptional Compagnon de la Libération, Édouard Corniglion-Molinier, on the occasion of the sixtieth anniversary of his death. From October 2, 2023 to February 4, 2024, this temporary exhibition, entitled Le Chevalier du ciel (The Knight of the Sky), will introduce the public to the incredible life of this versatile character: pilot, adventurer, film-maker, journalist and much more.

A native of Provence (Nice to be precise), Édouard Corniglion-Molinier has lived a life dedicated to aviation, from his first flight as a teenager to his speed record aboard a Mystère IVN in 1955, when he was a minister. Famous for his seven commendations by the age of 20, he was the youngest fighter pilot of the First World War and one of only three French pilots to achieve at least one victory in each of the two world wars. His adventures beyond the skies, such as his aerial exploration of Yemen with André Malraux in search of the kingdom of the legendary Queen of Sheba, earned him the nickname Chevalier du ciel.

Beyond his love of aviation, the exhibition at the Musée de l'Ordre de la Libération also highlights his role as a pioneer of the French Resistance and as commander, then general, of the Free French Air Force. Corniglion-Molinier was not only a dedicated fighter, but also a respected politician, having served as minister, deputy, senator, general councillor and mayor. His circle of friends included such emblematic figures as André Malraux, Marcel Carné, Jacques Prévert, Marcel Dassault and Marcel Pagnol. A film producer, he also worked on the Cannes Film Festival after the Second World War.
