Once again this year, the Institut de France is participating in the outdoor program of the Paris+ contemporary art fair by Art Basel. From October 17 to 28, 2025, come and admire an impressive sculpture by Ugo Rondinone on the institution's forecourt.

It's one of the most eagerly awaited artistic events of the year:contemporary art lovers are getting ready for the return of theArt Basel Paris fair! This fourth edition promises to be even bigger, with a packed program of exhibitions, events, and activities to discover throughout the capital.

Of course, we don't miss the major gathering of art galleries at the Grand Palais. But we don't stop there: a program of events outside the walls takes us to the four corners of the capital. Among the exhibitions on offer and the major sites to see this year, we once again find the forecourt of the Institut de France, in the 6th arrondissement.

From October 17 to 28, 2025, this temple to science and the arts will feature a brand new installation on its forecourt, directly opposite the Pont des Arts.

This work was created by Swiss artist Ugo Rondinone. A sculptor as well as a painter, draughtsman, photographer, architect and video artist, this contemporary creator has acquired an international reputation. For Art Basel Paris, Ugo Rondinone presents a monumental sculpture in human form, reminiscent of ancient and universal beliefs.

This blue stone creation is four meters high. The sculpture is inspired by ancient totems and artifacts: Ugo Rondinone returns to the origins of humanity, to the millennia-old mystical beliefs and practices that unite all peoples. This refined form is actually more complex than it appears, and viewers are invited to immerse themselves in contemplation as they face this imposing installation. At the foot of the totem pole are flowers and toys: offerings and tributes that reinforce the spiritual message of this creation.

It's free, it's open access, it's new in Paris: all the more reason to see this installation again and again! And don't miss the other open-air exhibitions scheduled during this week of contemporary art.
