The Musée Aéronautique et Spatial Safran in Réau, near Melun, invites enthusiasts to rediscover the evolution of aeronautical propulsion since 1905. Why not visit this free museum, which is well worth the detour?

The Musée Aéronautique et Spatial Safran, a place rich in history, offers a glimpse into the world of aeronautics. Managed by the Association des Amis du Musée Snecma since its inauguration in 1989, this unique museum pays tribute to the innovation and genius of French engine-makers such as Gnome et Rhône, Snecma, and today, the Safran group.

As you enter the museum, you are instantly transported back in time. An agreement signed in 1985 between the Musée de l'Air et de l'Espace at Le Bourget and Snecma led to the voluntary restoration of over 1,000 vintage aircraft engines. Two years later, the decision was taken to create a dedicated museum to display these treasures. The result is this museum, housed in a 4,000 m² former seaplane hangar.

Good news: admission is free. And to enhance your visit, a free audioguide is available on site.

On the program for your visit :

  • Piston engines: the first engines that brought aircraft to life,
  • Turbojet engines: those that powered aircraft throughout the 20th century,
  • Rocket engines: the giants that propelled us into space,
  • Aerospace equipment: from landing gear to brakes, discover the key components of aircraft,
  • Aircraft: some exceptional specimens,
  • Gnôme et Rhône motorcycle collection: a surprising diversification of the Safran group.

For over 30 years, this museum has preserved and enhanced a priceless collection that tells the fabulous story of the conquest of air and space. You'll see just how rich our aeronautical heritage is, carefully restored by passionate volunteers. One thing's for sure: you won't come away from this immersion in history unscathed.

For the best possible experience, we recommend that you book your visit on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and 2 Saturday afternoons per month. The museum is packed with objects and anecdotes to delight young and old alike. So, are you ready to embark on a journey through time?
