Until March 16, 2024, Galerie Polka is exhibiting the Franco-Brazilian photographer Sebastião Salgado, known for his work for prestigious photo agencies such as Sigma and Magnum.

From February 2 to March 16, 2024, Galerie Polka - a gallery dedicated to the art of photography, in accordance with the eponymous specialist magazine - is exhibiting a world-famous photographer: SebastiãoSalgado. Magnum Opus invites visitors to plunge into the heart of the artist's universe, as they discover fifty images, selected from among the most famous of the photographer's work and printed on platinum-palladium.

After presenting the first prints from Magnum Opus a year ago, Galerie Polka continues its momentum with the second part of this collection, including fifteen images from the photographer's most recent series. These include Amazonia, which tells the story of the Amazon rainforest (which Salgado explored for six years), and Genesis, in search of spaces, animals and people that have escaped modern society... All the photographs presented at Galerie Polka have been printed with platinum-palladium in Georges Charlier's Salto Ulbeek laboratory in Belgium, and are offered for sale as limited editions.

What is platinum-palladium?

The platinum-palladium technique is based on scanned negatives or raw digital files in very high definition. Each image is divided into three negatives, according to its tonal range. The prints are then printed on paper made from cotton thread, with several layers of platinum and palladium, two metals renowned for their inalterability over time.

Magnum Opus is a retrospective exhibition, highlighting the life's work of Sebastião Salgado, who has marked the photographic landscape of recent decades with his unique reportage work.
