There are Scrooge McDuck and his millions, and the Beagle Boys plotting to steal his money; there's Batman, the billionaire, and Spider-Man, the broke student; there's Asterix and his sesterces, as well as bounty hunters in Lucky Luke... Money can play a significant role in the world of comics and graphic novels. The Monnaie de Paris explores this theme through the exhibition Cling! Comics Talk Cash, on display from April 10 to September 6, 2026.
Money is a big issue in our world. When we escape into a comic book, manga, or graphic novel, we don't necessarily expect to encounter issues such as economic crisis or tax justice. And yet, the world of comics has its own economy.
The exhibition at the Monnaie de Paris analyzes these sometimes complex relationships with money and economics in comics. Through these heroes and villains, visitors learn more about both the most common economic behaviors and the history of comics. Adventurer, thief, gambler, counterfeiter, outcast, saver, billionaire, alchemist: how would you describe your favorite comic book character? Behind these playful worlds, the Monnaie de Paris offers us a real educational reflection on money.
The exhibition journey is showcased through original comic book pages, including comics and manga, as well as covers, films, vintage and historical works, alongside contemporary creations specifically conceived for this event. In total, over 250 pieces come together to explore the theme of money in illustrated art.
This exhibition should be suitable for children and should offer us a fun time alongside our favorite comic book heroes. We can't wait to discover it next spring in Paris.
