La Monnaie de Paris speaks to us about money through comics and their heroes, with an exclusive exhibition titled Cling! Comics talk money. On view from April 10 to September 6, 2026.

There’s Scrooge McDuck and his millions, and the Beagle Boys trying to swipe that cash, there’s Batman, the billionaire, and Spider-Man, the penniless student, there’s Astérix and his sesterces, the bounty hunters and thieves in Lucky Luke... Money is a recurring theme in comics and in real life!

The Monnaie de Paris explains the different attitudes toward money by drawing on well-known comic characters. The exhibition Cling ! La bande dessinée parle cash, running from April 10 to September 6, 2026, invites us to learn more about ourselves and how each person can approach the question of money.

Whether you’re dealing with cash or money in a bank account, money sits at the heart of today’s world. Yet we don’t always know how to use it: should we spend it, invest it, or tuck it away securely? The choices we make aren’t trivial ... but they aren’t always easy to understand.

The exhibition at Monnaie de Paris examines our sometimes complex relationships with money and the economy through the medium of comics. Through these heroes and villains, visitors learn both about the most common economic behaviors and about the history of comic art. Adventurer, thief, gambler, forger, outcast, saver, billionaire, alchemist: each archetype serves as a (barely caricatured) mirror of our human conduct. Behind these playful universes, Monnaie de Paris offers a genuine educational reflection on money.

Is it better to chase after treasure, or to stash your money safely in a bank account? Should we ignore the big capitalist system, or roll the dice on a single gamble? The exhibition isn’t here to preach; its main goal is to shed light on the most common profiles and to show what can influence certain decisions. By drawing on examples from the world of comics, this little economics lesson becomes much clearer—and, above all, more engaging and understandable for everyone.

The exhibition route is illustrated by original comic panels from comics and children's magazines, by covers, by films, by vintage and historic works, and by contemporary creations imagined especially for the occasion. In total, more than 250 works are gathered to explore the notion of money through drawn art.

Comic-book fans will be thrilled to rediscover childhood heroes, encounter rare works, and flip through numerous panels still brimming with humor.

This exhibition blends money and comics into an engaging, richly illustrated educational journey. It is primarily aimed at visitors who are new to Wall Street’s inner workings, eager to learn more about this sometimes opaque realm.
