At first glance, these creatures seem perfectly ordinary... A tree, a wolf, a rabbit, some flowers... But upon closer inspection, you'll uncover hybrid beings that look straight out of a fairy tale. Astrid de Geuser invites us into her enchanting and fantastical universe through a free exhibition hosted at the Château de Ladoucette in Drancy.
From February 21 to April 26, 2026, the exhibition Anima Mundi ("soul of the world" in Latin, a phrase that highlights the interconnectedness of all living beings and nature) will showcase a curated selection of sculptures, installations, paintings, and watercolors.
These original works fuse two worlds: the realm of nature and all living things as we know them, with the magical universe of fairy tales, stories, and legends that filled our childhoods with enchanting creatures. The contemporary artist draws inspiration from both the real world and these age-old narratives to craft her vivid and poetic universe.
Throughout the exhibition, visitors can admire astonishing works where animals and plants blend together to form fantastical new creatures. Some are familiar—medusas, flamingos, wolves, owls—but with a twist that makes them almost, but not quite, realistic. Some differences are subtle, others more whimsically exaggerated. Astrid de Geuser immerses us in an enchanting world that closely resembles our own, yet remains subtly different. With a touch of magic, the artist transports us into a more mystical and dreamlike reality.
This free exhibition is like stepping into a curiosity cabinet. It's a delightful mini-adventure sure to captivate kids and grown-ups alike, offering a chance to escape into more unusual and enchanting worlds.
