Entitled Brassaï, The Eye of Paris, this exhibition zeroes in on Paris in the 1930s. It reveals a capital in full swing—a city of inspiration and encounter for artists of every stripe, a scene of gatherings as cosmopolitan as it is popular... With his camera, Brassaï captured the glow of monuments, the morning mist, the workers, and those who let loose in the cafés.
The photographer infiltrates everywhere, capturing everything that intrigues or fascinates them, without preconceptions. The exhibition’s itinerary thus reveals a city that is rich and vibrant, at times surprising, at times almost cliché... With a single image, the artist manages to tell a story.
As you travel through the exhibit, you’ll see famous photos alongside lesser-known gems. You accompany Brassaï on his nocturnal outings, from Montmartre to the Louvre, passing through the 13th arrondissement. You walk with him into cafés, ateliers d'artistes, bars and bals musette... You also encounter Picasso, Matisse, Dalí and all these renowned artists and intellectuals who were Brassaï’s contemporaries: the photographer shot many portraits of the people who helped shape society at the time.
