The Picasso Museum in Paris

The Musée Picasso opened its doors on October 25, 2014, in Paris. The 3800m² Hôtel Salé, located in the 3rd arrondissement, is now home to the largest public collection of Pablo Picasso's work, comprising over 5000 works by the master and 150 works by French artists, acquired by Picasso during his career.

The Musée Picasso Paris is getting a facelift: after three years of hard work, during which the architects of the Monuments nationaux renovated the 34 rooms of the Hôtel Salé, the Musée Picasso's permanent collection is about to expand! Indeed, while the Musée Picasso took effect in three rooms of the building, in October 2014, it will be a question of the 34 rooms of the Hôtel, i.e. the entire Hôtel, thus increasing the number of works on display to over 5,000 paintings.

In addition, we have the chance to rediscover a large part of Pablo Picasso's personal collection, comprising 150 works by French artists including Cézanne, Renoir and Matisse, as well as over 150,000 personal documents, which bear witness to the daily life and artistic life of the Spaniard, who was exiled to France during the Franco period.

These major works have helped to bring the collection to the attention of the whole world: indeed, the artist's works have been the subject of travelling exhibitions since the Museum closed in 2008, attracting millions of visitors to European museums, whereas attendance at the Musée Picasso Paris was mixed before the latter's closure!
