Win a little piece of Notre-Dame Cathedral by taking part in the heritage reconstruction? What a great idea! The Fondation du Patrimoine, a key player in financing the restoration of Notre-Dame de Paris, is organizing a brand-new competition. The prize is a real stone from the cathedral, taken from elements not reintegrated after the fire in 2019. This event, open from March 4 to April 4, 2025, aims to support the preservation of religious heritage by raising funds.
Since its reopening on December 8, Notre-Dame de Paris has welcomed almost 30,000 visitors daily, who have come to rediscover this jewel of the Île de la Cité. Now, thanks to the Fondation du patrimoine, it's possible to own a fragment of this history. By taking part in this competition, each donor has the chance to win a carved stone from the cathedral, authenticated by the public institution in charge of its conservation. There are 50 of these stones, which could not be reintegrated during the restoration work and are now being offered as exceptional prizes.
The draw, supervised by a bailiff, will take place between April 7 and 11, 2025. The 50 winners will be announced on April 15, 2025, the sixth anniversary of the Notre-Dame fire. Each will receive a limestone cube, 7 cm on a side, weighing around 800 grams, with an engraved brass plate on one side, attesting to its authenticity.
This initiative is part of a vast fundraising campaign launched at the end of 2023 by President Emmanuel Macron, with the aim of supporting 1,000 religious buildings in four years. According to the French Ministry of Culture, some 5,000 religious buildings in France are in urgent need of repair. In just one year, the Fondation du Patrimoine has raised 16 million euros, earmarked for the restoration of the first 100 selected buildings.
