On the occasion of the European Archaeology Days, the public is invited to push open doors at places that tell our past in a different way: not as a static backdrop, but as a living, accessible field of exploration full of surprises. The idea? to open archaeology to as many people as possible, from history enthusiasts to curious onlookers. This year, the event runs from June 12–14, 2026, with a particularly singular stop in Île-de-France: the Ithe farm, in Tremblay-sur-Mauldre.
In the heart of the Yvelines, the site boasts an exceptionally rich history. The farm of Ithe is not merely an old rural estate: it sits on the archaeological site of Diodurum, identified as an ancient vicus—a small, active settlement dating to the Gallo-Roman era. Located on an ancient route linking Lutetia Parisiorum to Dreux toward Rouen, the site occupied a strategic position and today stands as a rare testimony to the history of northern Gaul. Complementing these antique roots is a Cistercian granary established in the Middle Ages, making the farm of Ithe a place where close to two millennia of occupations, transformations and transmissions can be read.
