With its imposing allure and 65-meter steeple, the Church of the Holy Trinity has dominated the Chaussée-d'Antin district for over 150 years. Behind its façade lies a history of Haussmannian modernity.

Easily recognized from above, theEglise de la Sainte-Trinité in Paris's 9th arrondissement is a magnificent religious edifice dating back to 1861. With its superb steeple rising to a height of 65 m, it stands out from other churches, having been transferred from the rue de Clichy at the behest of Baron Haussmann. Designed by Théodore Ballu during the Second Empire to be seen from theParis Opera, the church closes the rue de la Chaussée d'Antin, giving it a monumental, urban landmark appearance.

In 2019, after the fire, it was discovered that its clocks are made up of the same mechanism as that of Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris, built by the Collin-Wagner workshop in 1867. The façade is in eclectic neo-Renaissance style, with niches, pediments, pilasters and statues representing the mystery of the Holy Trinity. The same trinity can be seen in the Square d'Estienne d'Orves below, with its three triple-basin fountains and three statues.

At the far end of the nave is a balcony beneath the Cavaillé-Coll organ, intended to welcome the Emperor for religious ceremonies, but he never set foot on it. Thanks to the many white glass windows high up, the church appears particularly bright from the inside. During the siege of Paris in 1870, the church was even used as a hospital, its width making it practical for housing the wounded.
