The Journées de l'Archéologie, a date that has something for everyone: the curious, families, and explorers keen to dig into History... quite literally. This summer cultural event invites the public to better understand excavations, the objects unearthed, the careers of researchers, and more broadly how we reconstruct the history of regions. In 2026, it will take place the weekend of 12 to 14 June, and of course the Île-de-France region will be part of the action!
In Guiry-en-Vexin, the town seizes the chance to dive into the heart of local heritage. Nestled in the village center in the Vexin Français region, the Val d’Oise Archaeology Museum is devoted entirely to discoveries unearthed beneath the Val d’Oise. It is even the only departmental museum in Île-de-France dedicated to preserving and showcasing the excavations conducted on the territory. Its permanent route takes visitors on a broad journey—from the Crétacé’s geological landscapes to the 1940s, with a clear emphasis on local history. Over nearly 1,000 m² spread across two floors, guests traverse 90 million years of evolution, moving through fossils, tools, sculptures, everyday objects, and testimonies of ancient societies.
