La Cité Fertile: a little corner of paradise at the gates of Paris

Since August 15, 2018, a new place of life has opened its doors in Pantin: the Cité Fertile. For three years, this new third place, a former SNCF wasteland, will host festive, cultural or even economic activities for a beautiful broth of culture intended to imagine the city of tomorrow. A city that fights against waste, green and pleasant.

After the Grands Voisins, Grand Train or Ground Countrol, here is La Cité Fertile, a new ephemeral living space. Installed on an SNCF wasteland for 3 years, while waiting to be replaced by an eco-district, La Cité Fertile opened its doors last August 15. Its season will end on October 14, 2018.

If here there was only cobblestones before (they throne at the entrance in a heap!), now there is greenery thanks to the 200 treesand shrubs that have just been planted. A fish tank collecting rainwater completes the natural elements.

Theentrance is free . There is a large bicycle parking for cyclists. Only the consumption has to be paid.

What do we do in this Fertile City? You can play molky, have fun on the petanque court, the beach volleyball court or on a ping-pong table. The games are loaned free of charge in exchange for an ID card. You can read in the revolving library while the children play in the sand of the beach under the courtyard.
Looking for some peace and quiet? A meditation hut opens its doors to you.

Some evenings, there are DJ sets but the volume of the music remains reasonable so as not to disturb the neighbors. And every week the animations follow a different theme.

To eat, everything is homemade, whether it is sandwiches, salads, grills or brunch, with local, organic or sustainable products. The tofu comes from Brittany. As for the beer, it is brewed on the spot. The shortest possible circuit! The half costs 3 euros. There is also iced tea and home-made juices.

After having eaten on one of the large convivial tables, next to his neighbors, each one clears his meal, by not forgetting to sort out his waste. They will be used to make compost, as well as the residues of the beer making.

For the popo, head for the dry toilets. Everything is green here, even the toilets!

This "hectare to fertilize the city and explore the uses of tomorrow" is located in a former freight station of the SNCF. At the end of its first season of opening, it will host an incubator for start-ups but also events of the Grand Paris after new development works.
A large 800 m² vertical greenhouse forurban agriculture will be built there.

As you can see, we had a very pleasant time in this Cité Fertile.
