The Pride des Banlieues is being held this Saturday, June 3, 2023 during Pride Month, which highlights LGBTQIA+ people and their initiatives. Prior to the Pride March which will take place on June 24, the Pride des Banlieues is the largest activist demonstration in Seine-Saint-Denis that demands rights for LGBT+ people in working-class neighborhoods. The march will start at 1pm from the René Dumont square, and will claim this year the end of inequalities in access to MAP, so that everyone can freely dispose of their body.
After a two-year hiatus, the Pride des Banlieues brought together nearly 10,000 people last year. This year, the militant event is back on the streets to make the voice of working-class neighborhoods and their representation in the public space heard. The issue of access to housing and emergency accommodation will also be central, as LGBTQI+ people are still over-represented among the homeless. It will also be an opportunity to protest against the pension reform, "a total nonsense when we know how many of us die before the current retirement age of 62", says the collective.
After the march, an associative village as well as an after-party are planned throughout the 93. Place Jean Jaurès in Saint-Denis, musical performances, speeches and animations will be held from 15:30 to 18:00 at the Village des Fiertés. Before continuing the day at the Cité Fertile in Pantin, until midnight, for a festive evening at free price for queer people from working class neighborhoods and their allies, with a musical program of dozens of artists.
