Before its transformation into a pagoda, the Château de Lugny in Moissy Cramayel was abandoned. Now it's home to an immense garden decorated with hundreds of gilded Buddha statues, a pagoda and a Buddhist temple: Wat Thammapatip, an unusual place where we'd love to spend every Sunday and Saturday. This Sunday, April 14, 2024, Songkran will be celebrated here: an opportunity to discover this extraordinary place, less than an hour from Paris!

There's no shortage of famous pagodas or places reminiscent of Asian culture in the Paris region: rue Courcelles is home to Monsieur Loo's pagoda, Vincennes pagoda in the 12th arrondissement andEvry-Courcouronnes pagoda in the 91st arrondissement. There's also a sacred, timeless pagoda in Moissy-Cramayel, 77.

Songkhan or Songkran, also known as the Buddhist New Year, is one of the most important festivals in Thailand: it marks a new beginning, a new year in the Buddhist community. At this time of year, Thailand always experiences its hottest day, so the Songkhan festival was an opportunity to go to the temple to receive blessings. In the Buddhist religion, water is said to ward off bad luck and purify: year after year, this tradition has become - water being within the reach of children too - the world's biggest water fight.
