Crossing France by hitchhiking? A dream for some, created for real by Mad Jacques, which offers numerous adventure races (hiking, paddle, bike) all over France. Its flagship race is undoubtedly the Mad Jacques Stop, a two-day concept that allows adventurers of all ages to set themselves a challenge: to hitchhike from their home town to a small village in the middle of the Creuse region.
Paris, Lyon, Toulouse, Marseille, Lille... Adventurers have an average of 400 km to hitchhike, with numerous challenges along the way. Largely inspired by Pékin Express, the famous TV show that invites its contestants to discover a region of the world by hitchhiking too, the Mad Jacques is much more accessible, with the added bonus of a 24-hour village party at the finish!
Tractor, 33-tonne, bus, minivan... All means - or rather, all vehicles - are used to arrive safely at the final destination of this great hitchhiking race. Once the distance has been covered, it's time to relax and, above all, to party, as if it were a real village festival. Sleeping is easy: everyone sleeps in a tent! Or almost, since certain (paying) options allow you to grant yourself a little more comfort, by sleeping in a tipi.
For the return journey on Sunday, buses (also paying) are available for hitchhikers, otherwise you'll have to make your own way (why not hitchhike?). Tickets cost from €54 (per person), and include repatriation insurance (in case of accident), GPS tracking by the organization, camping pitch and all entertainment once on site.
