On August 30, 2026, treat yourself to a bucolic interlude along the Grand Canal of the Château de Fontainebleau for the Saint-Louis Festival. Water jousting and waterside entertainments will set the pace for this free, family-friendly day.

To celebrate the last days of August and the vacations as they should be, head to Fontainebleau for the Saint Louis Day celebration! A breath of fresh air to enjoy with the family along the banks of the grand canal of the Château de Fontainebleau, on 30 August 2026, with many free activities that replace the fireworks, scrapped due to fire risk. With this new format, enjoy a vast funfair and bucolic festival, for a day between water and skies!

From 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., we settle in for a big, relaxed picnic on the grass, swing on vintage swings, pedal along the canal, and enjoy some beautiful performances — all at no cost. A fine day ahead to create a trove of unforgettable memories with your loved ones!

Today's schedule

Activities for all - 10:00–13:00 / 14:00–21:00

  • Pédalos : Pedal boats let you explore the Grand Canal aboard craft suitable for all ages. Two water rollers will complete this playful lineup, offering an original on‑water sliding experience.
  • Badminton et tennis de table : The City Sports Service will play a full role in the day's activities by providing a dedicated outdoor sports area. In a spirit of discovery and sociability, free taster sessions in badminton and table tennis will be open to all audiences, regardless of age or experience.
  • Balançoires d’antan : An authentic carousel from the 1920s–1930s, in metal and wood. It features six colorful boats that can carry children and adults for flights up to four meters high.
  • Chute libre sur airbag : A free‑fall on an airbag promises thrilling sensations, safely. From a platform 10 meters above the ground, everyone can pick their preferred jump level before dropping onto a giant airbag. Accessible from a height of 1 meter, this activity invites both kids and adults to take on the challenge at their own pace and pace.

Kite-building workshop - 10am–1pm / 2pm–9pm

Come join the crafting workshops where you can build your own wind-powered object. Groups of 10 for 15-minute sessions.

The Magic of the Wind - 10:00–21:00

Exhibition: an aerial scenography of over 900 decorative components—weathervanes, spinning hot-air balloons, themed wind turbines, 3D air sleeves and metallic wind sculptures—will be set up on the ground.

Water jousting - 1:30 PM – 6:00 PM

Water jousting demonstration by the Saint-Mammès jousters, a spectacle that blends precision, folklore and competitive spirit, carried on since 1884

History and Tradition - 2:30 PM – 3:30 PM

Local heritage takes center stage at the Grand Parterre of the Château (Sully pavilion side), where reenactors bring Saint Louis and his era back to life, accompanied by music from Duo Diapason. The sequence closes with the enthronement ceremony of the Confrérie du Brie de Melun, a delicious nod to Bellifontain heritage.

Theatrical Fanfare: Les Grooms - 3:30 PM and 6:00 PM

With their infectious energy and offbeat vibe, the theatrical brass band Les Grooms will inject a festive, welcoming atmosphere into the event. Where music, street theatre and improvisation meet, the artists will roam through the crowd, sparking interactions, surprises and shared moments. Their dynamism and closeness to the audience will turn every encounter into a lively, convivial experience.

White-and-gold picnic at the Grand Canal - starting at 6:30 PM

Join us for a convivial, festive moment in an exceptional setting. To create an elegant, warm atmosphere, the dress code is white and gold. Bring your own picnic basket or take advantage of the on-site catering offered by the food trucks at the event.

Guinguette Dance - 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM

With the group SUNNY SIDE (a quintet featuring double bass, guitar, drums, saxophone, and a vocalist).

The Fantastical Frescoes - 7:00 PM and 8:15 PM

The Arlequins Company presents an interactive live-sculpture performance. A sculptor creates in real time personalized living sculptures in interaction with the audience. A visual, humorous, and participatory performance.

The canal sketched on the spot

There will be painters at easels on hand to capture a fleeting moment of life around the Grand Canal.
