"I cook for my customers the same way I cook for my family", explains Véronique, the founder of Cookies sucrés, cookies salés, "using fresh, seasonal ingredients". For more than five years, this mom has been selling her cakes, at the Milly-la-Forêt market or by order, with the dream "to open a physical shop as soon as I could", the pastry chef says. That dream is now a reality, in Fontainebleau!
In the display window, you’ll have no shortage of choices between the Original, with milk chocolate and its hazelnuts, the chocolate-salted flower (in milk or dark chocolate), the peanut cookie and its generous homemade peanut butter, the New Yorker with two chocolates and nuts... Not to mention the many more ephemeral specials, Speculoos cookie, mint and chocolate (with Véronique’s garden mint!). On the savory side, it’s the Savoyard that wins everyone over, with its smoked ham and wonderfully indulgent Reblochon!
Plan on spending around €4.90 for the simplest cookies, up to €6.30 for pastry-style ones (more elaborate), and €6.90 for savory cookies, each weighing about 200 grams—a fairly generous size for a single cookie (perhaps too big for kids, you might want to share!). On site, raw cookie dough is also sold, along with house-made speculoos cream, hazelnut purée, or peanut butter.
Hazelnuts from Nathalie’s Noiseraie (77), charcuterie from the Moneuse farm in Dagny (77), seasonal vegetables and fruit from Jardins de Brinville (77), raw-milk butter and cheese from Domaine des 30 Arpents (77), organic flour from Moissons d'Émeline (77)… All told, Véronique works with more than a dozen producers to ensure a 100% local and French-sourced supply (with the exception of cane sugar, which, due to climate, doesn’t grow in metropolitan France). The key is to use simple ingredients, which Véronique then transforms: she makes her own peanut butter, and also crafts speculoos cream or praline to elevate the more indulgent cookies on offer.
In good weather, the shop now features a small terrace (it's on a pedestrian street, which makes taking a break all the more pleasant). A very indulgent address, where you’re welcomed with a smile (by Véronique and her son Jules) and above all, a superb spot for an afternoon snack.
