During the winter holidays, some families head to the slopes for a ski trip, while others prefer to escape to the seaside and soak up the sun... As for us, we love spending our break in a castle! Nothing beats the regal atmosphere of wandering among golden accents and exquisite artworks, all while having fun and exploring France's rich history.
Fortunately, the Château de Fontainebleau has prepared a special program for us during the upcoming winter break. From February 21 to March 8, 2026, the historic site will host a variety of tours and activities designed for visitors of all ages.
The Château de Fontainebleau offers a rich and diverse schedule of events, perfect for discovering the history and culture of this iconic site in Seine-et-Marne. It’s hard to resist a walk through the castle grounds, especially since entry is free for young people under 26 from the European Union! A great cost-effective way for families to enjoy a day out. Just keep in mind that workshops, performances, or guided tours are often paid activities and require advance booking.

- Castle Investigation, Season 5
“Do you think this might have been a book that once belonged to the castle?” Children and adults alike will help the chief curator piece together a mystery dating back to the 19th century — a puzzle that could finally be solved today thanks to your help! Explore hidden corners of the castle and uncover secrets from its past.

Price: €7 extra on top of the admission fee.
Recommended for children aged 7 to 12, accompanied by an adult.

- A Day at the Castle
Explore the entire castle in just one day! Enjoy entry plus three essential guided tours: “Castle Discovery” at 11:15 am, “The Small Apartments” at 2:30 pm, and “The Imperial Theatre” at 4:15 pm. The castle will have no secrets for you! Your ticket grants access all day (you can leave and return at lunchtime). Be sure to visit the Napoléon Museum, included with your ticket, before your first tour—the last tour ends when the castle closes.

- Marie-Antoinette and Louis XVI Open the Castle’s Doors Wide
In 2026, the castle will celebrate Marie-Antoinette and Louis XVI on the 240th anniversary of their last visit to Fontainebleau. Until July 31, visitors are invited to write a letter to the Queen at her Château de Fontainebleau, one of her favorite stays. The “Write to Marie-Antoinette” project allows both children and adults to forge a personal connection through history and contemporary voices. The most beautiful and touching letters will be collected and published in a special anthology.
Send your letter directly: “Marie-Antoinette, Château de Fontainebleau 77300 Fontainebleau” or drop it in the dedicated mailbox near the castle shop.
Writing workshops will also be offered.

- Palm Court Game
Fontainebleau’s castle boasts one of the few active real tennis (jeu de paume) courts in France. During school holidays, the castle’s court master offers visitors a chance to try this historic sport, once played by kings and princes.
