On 23 and 24 May 2026, the Place de la République in Fontainebleau in Seine-et-Marne (77) blooms into a giant garden for a weekend. Les Naturiales, the city’s nature festival, offers a programme mixing a plant market, family-friendly activities, an eco-village and a bicycle parade. Free entry, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on both days.
The market is the heart of the gathering. Nurserymen and local producers showcase a fine selection: perennials, fruit trees, roses, aromatic plants, carnivorous plants, Japanese maples, tillandsias... And for those who prefer to swap rather than buy, a troc aux plantes lets you walk away with new cuttings for nothing. The City’s Green Spaces department is also on site to offer advice on jardinage écologique, repotting, and floral compositions.
Two entrances have been specially designed by landscape architects: on the Grande Street side, a play of shadow and light around urban vegetation; on the Paroisse Street side, native species and understory plants with timber and sandstone, a nod to the nearby Fontainebleau Forest.
The Eco-Village takes up a good portion of the space with four thematic zones. "Living Forest" tackles wildlife protection, remarkable trees, and biodiversity. "Nature Between Town and Forest" invites visitors to better understand forest management and everyday gestures that make room for life in urban settings. "From Plate to Soil" raises questions about sustainable diets, composting, and short supply chains. "Energy, Low Tech and Mobility" explores practical solutions for better housing, getting around, and extending the life of objects. Associations, institutions and local actors are represented throughout the weekend for exchanges, games and workshops.
On the entertainment front, kids have a heap of surprises with La Belle Roue, an open-air carousel, and Pomm'Grimpe, a climbing tower shaped like an apple tree for ages 3 and up. Le Kat'elier offers 45-minute, nature-inspired creative workshops, running throughout the two days.
Also worth noting: on Saturday, May 23 at 3 p.m., there will be a tasting of the Fontainebleau cheese held at the Tourism Office on Place de la République, in partnership with Bellifontaine cheesemakers.
On Sunday morning, the highlight is the grand bicycle parade: bikes are decorated and checked starting at 9:30 a.m. on the Town Hall forecourt, with the ride kicking off at 11:00 a.m. from Rue de la Paroisse for a 4 km loop through the city streets. Free, no registration required, and open to everyone.
To eat on site, Kombi Bar, Dolce Mama and La Roulotte Vitalité handle the on-site dining with salads, hot dogs, artisanal ice creams and drinks. Local producers are also in on the action: Ferme des Moënes, Miellerie de Perthes, Conserverie de la Forêt and EARL du Chèvre fermier to fill your basket.
The Naturiales are accessible from Fontainebleau-Avon station (Transilien Line R) via bus lines 3401 and 3403. The full program of workshops (sylvotherapy, Climate Fresk, forest walks, and more) is available. Several sessions require advance registration, including the sylvotherapy stroll in the Château gardens (15 places) and the long-view forest walk (16 places, Sunday morning).
