Just steps from the Saint-Michel metro, at 19 quai des Grands Augustins, Cone offers a Vienna-inspired idea: sip your cappuccino or your hot chocolate in an artisanal Valrhona chocolate cone, every day from 9am to 7pm.
We hadn’t seen this concept in Paris yet, and curiosity got the better of us, so we went to try it out for ourselves. Cone is a small coffee counter that has been open since March 20, 2026, in the 6ᵉ arrondissement de Paris, just a two-minute walk from Place Saint-Michel and the banks of the Seine. The concept: your cappuccino or hot chocolate served not in a cardboard cup, but in an artisanal cone coated in chocolate, to be held in the hand like a scoop of ice cream.
The idea took root in Vienna during Enzo’s personal trip, after a pit stop at a cafe that offered the same concept (minus the house sourcing), where the line outside the display window piqued his curiosity. Back in Paris, he spent almost a year refining the concept before opening: nailing the right cone size so a real cappuccino could fit without leaking, choosing the right chocolate to waterproof the interior, and dialing in the dimensions. In the end, it wasn’t so trivial.
The cornets are produced by a small family-run house in Monaco, but it’s the Cone team that, each evening, applies the Valrhona chocolate from the Caribbean, Venezuela, to the inside of every cone, using a tempering machine imported from Switzerland. Twenty grams of melted chocolate, carefully tempered, so the coffee doesn’t soften the cone and the tasting stays impeccable down to the last sip. A discreet artisanal gesture, but it makes all the difference on the palate.
For coffee, Cone works with a British roaster spotted on a trip to London, a name you’ll see in many Notting Hill coffee shops. Two origins are on offer: a Colombian from the Palestina region for espressos, and a Brazilian for dairy-based drinks. A choice shaped more by experience than by marketing.
On the price side, expect €8 for a plain cone (cappuccino or hot chocolate) and €9 for the pistachio-hazelnut version. Prices sit in the Parisian coffee-shop range, noting that in Vienna the original concept is priced at €12. The counter is open every day, Monday through Sunday, from 9am to 7pm, no reservations: you pop in, place your order, and head off along the Seine with your cone in hand.
A quick tip before you dive in: start with the coffee before biting into the cone, or you’ll end up with a splodge in your hand and on your clothes. We enjoyed our cappuccino, available with vegetable milk (coconut, almond, or oat), and finishing with the artisanal cone is a real little treat: it stays crunchy and each bite reveals a distinctly rich chocolate note. The counter also offers matchas and good, no-nonsense coffee, along with a selection of cakes and pastries, perfect for a stroll through the neighborhood or along the quays toward Notre-Dame de Paris, just nearby.
It may seem a little pricey to some, but let’s not forget the quality of the coffee and the artisanal cones. Cone speaks to specialty coffee lovers in search of a café de spécialité and a expérience insolite, to the curious of the Latin Quarter and to the walkers along the quay. It isn’t a coffee break like any other, but it isn’t taken too seriously either, and that’s precisely what makes it a solid pick to try. The owner tells us that ice creams are coming with an affogato version that we can’t wait to discover.
If you’re into concept-driven spots, you should also swing by Maison Phê, the Parisian Vietnamese café that serves, among other things, the famous egg coffee—a coffee topped with a creamy egg-based mousse—or a surprising salty coffee, an experience all its own. In an equally original vein, Tê is worth a stop for its tea salon with Taiwanese influences where you dip your ego cakes in bubble tea.
