As it prepares to host an exhibition dedicated to the royal couple, the Château de Fontainebleau is lining up a special weekend to immerse us in the life of Marie-Antoinette and Louis XVI. Through this programming, the domaine royal aims to revive the grace-filled moments they experienced during their stays at Fontainebleau, before the French Revolution sealed their fate.
Thus, the weekend of April 18-19, 2026, the general public will find themselves at the heart of a grand historical reenactment that transports us to the 18th century. A host of activities designed to travel back in time awaits over these two days, letting us sample royal life. We will encounter short scenes, watch the King on his stroll, dip into Jeu de Paume, the ancestor of tennis, explore a camp set up in the English garden, and marvel at an equestrian show by the Alexis Gruss company, in homage to the first equestrian spectacle requested by Marie-Antoinette in Fontainebleau.
More precisely, the Château de Fontainebleau lets us relive the entertainments that marked the daily life of the royal court of Louis XVI and Marie-Antoinette. Visitors can thus enjoy the château and its gardens, thanks to the King's Promenade, several vignettes that stage the meetings between the two sovereigns, period games, a military encampment populated by about fifty reenactors, and an introduction to the game of paume...
A promising weekend that should attract not only families looking for an original outing to do with their children, but also history and monarchy enthusiasts.
