The Palace of Versailles marks the 250th anniversary of U.S. independence. To celebrate, experience a grand historical reenactment on July 4th and 5th, 2026, at the Trianon Estate.

Would you like to take a step back in time? No need for a DeLorean or a TARDIS—just hop on a train to visit the Versailles Castle and enjoy an unforgettable weekend filled with history and elegance...

To celebrate the 250th Anniversary of U.S. Independence, the Palace of the Sun King invites visitors to explore a recreated 18th-century military encampment. On July 4th and 5th, 2026, the Trianon Estate will transform into an American base, where French and American forces join forces to defeat the English.

On July 4, 1776, the American colonies declared their independence, breaking away from England to become their own nation. The French played a crucial role in shaping this new country, sending nearly 10,000 troops to support the American Revolution.

During this history reenactment weekend at the Palace of Versailles, visitors can watch an epic battle, witness military demonstrations, enjoy the troop review, and even catch some period dances. The 500 re-enactors, dressed in 18th-century costumes, bring this pivotal era of history back to life. Guests are free to wander through the sprawling camp, step back in time, and experience history as if they were truly there... or almost.

Several major events are set to highlight this weekend of historic celebrations. Here are the must-see happenings:

  • Explore the largest recreated encampment ever assembled in the Trianon Gardens, featuring Queen Marie Antoinette’s royal quarters, the American insurgents' camp, and a British bivouac.
  • Enjoy a leisurely stroll through military bases, meeting over 500 historic re-enactors.
  • Watch a parade of troops on the parade ground at the Trianon Castle.
  • Marvel at equestrian and military demonstrations.
  • Discover traditional crafts from bygone eras.
  • Experience music and dance performances, including the Scottish quadrille, Boston-style dancing, and period concerts.
  • Throughout the weekend: witness the grand battle reenactment, where American insurgents and their allies face off against British troops in a dramatic reenactment of the Battle of Yorktown!

Book your tickets quickly for this unusual event! Take advantage of this festive weekend to also enjoy the Magnificent Musical Fountains and the evening show, held in the castle gardens during the beautiful days.
