We’ve already told you about the Sunday brunch at Table d'Alice in Versailles, the “Sunday morning address” we love for its homemade, from-scratch quality. This time we’re back to check the restaurant menu and, above all, its summer terrace which opens with the sunny days on Place Saint-Symphorien, in the heart of Versailles (78). A spot worth knowing if you want to lunch in the sun without falling into the tourist traps nearby.
La Table d'Alice, is above all a family story. Cyril Fabien, originally from Guadeloupe, began his career as a script supervisor, far from the stove. Ten years ago he admitted he didn’t even know what a peeler was. Changing tack led him into the kitchen, first for fun, then more seriously, until he landed a head chef role at the restaurant Mother in Boulogne-Billancourt. It was his wife who pushed him to take the plunge. He found this opportunity in Versailles and opened the restaurant, paying tribute to Alice, his Antillean grandmother, who had always dreamed of having her own place. She supposedly still calls him every day.
Cyril’s cooking is traditional French bistro fare with a worldly twist. It sits on solid fundamentals, with graceful detours toward the Caribbean, Asia, or the Maghreb that arrive without effort. No flashy fusion, just well-placed nods.
The bistro-style menu with Creole and Mediterranean twists that sidestep the classics without losing the thread aims for a contemporary edge. We tested the lacquered salmon tataki-style, with Tiger sauce that weeps and fried onions: a center that melts, a crunch on the outside, very well executed. The crispy ravioli with fresh cheese and chorizo stands out from what you typically find at this kind of spot.
The dish that surprised us the most was the bourguignon créole. The beef is melt-in-your-mouth as it should be, but the spices and the alokos bananas give it a whole new dimension. A fresh take on a classic we didn’t expect to enjoy so much. We also tried the saint-Jacques snackées, accompanied by a purée of roasted parsnip and a Champagne emulsion: indulgent, textural, and well balanced.
On the dessert side, we tried the café gourmand, which didn’t quite convince us. For those who crave a little zing in every bite, the dessert Autour du citron features a Breton shortbread, a lemon cream, and lime sorbet.
The 12€ kids' menu (for kids under 12) is also thoughtfully designed: mini burger or mini crispy chicken, a drink and a dessert included, making it a smart choice for family outings.
The terrace is clearly the season’s standout feature. Thirty-four covers on the place Saint-Symphorien, opposite the church, in a Versailles neighborhood we favor precisely because it’s less crowded than the areas near the palace. We drop by in the morning for a coffee and a pastry (breakfast is served Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m.), swing by at noon for lunch, and even linger into the afternoon with a drink. The all-day service—from morning to night, seven days a week—is a real plus.
As for prices, expect 7.50€ to 12€ for starters, 17€ to 24€ for mains, 17€ to 17.50€ for burgers and salads, and 8€ to 10€ for most desserts. The pricing is fair for Versailles, especially given the level of craft on the plate. La Table d'Alice is located at 6 Place Saint-Symphorien, 78000 Versailles.
We appreciate this spot for its sweet spot between an approachable bistro and cooking that has something to say. It isn’t a haute cuisine temple, but it isn’t a soulless restaurant either. Cyril Fabien cooks with a real identity, and you can taste it. The terrace elevates it to a serious option for outdoor lunch in Versailles—no scramble for a table and no compromise on quality. Recommended for family outings, casual-leaning friends’ meals, or a intimate tête-à-tête, whether you’re after a proper meal or just a sunlit drink.
Who is this for? Fans of bistro-style cooking with real character, families (kids’ menu available), and anyone looking to enjoy a pleasant terrace in Versailles without wandering into the ultra-touristy areas.
