A small shop on rue de Crussol, in the 11th arrondissement and an ambition: to work the sandwich jambon-beurre to (re)grant it its noble status, for this recipe that sells more than 1.4 billion sandwiches every year in France. Emblem of all our French bakeries, the ham-and-butter consists of a baguette, thinly sliced ham, butter, and sometimes pickles.
An almost foolproof recipe that Le Parizot is eager to stand out with, built on top-tier ingredients all French and artisanal. A giant lump of demi-sel churned butter, a cooked ham crafted by Paris’s last master ham-maker and offered in three flavors (natural, smoked, and herb), and a levain baguette (also available in a version with charcoal and coconut—no difference in taste, but much easier to digest)... “I’m tackling a globally known product, something hyper simple, so I had to offer items you don’t find everywhere,” explains JM, the manager of Le Parizot.
So, we obviously recommend you go for the Parizot (€5 for the small, €10 for the large), the classic ham-and-butter sandwich made to order, with a hint of pepper that elevates everything (optional), or the confit of cornichons (€1.50 extra) for a sweet-salty twist... Or again, the Saint-François (€15 for the large), featuring its farmhouse cow’s tomme, the 3 hams (€13 for the large) that blends the three variations of the iconic Prince de Paris (the ham’s name), or else, the Bourrin (€18 for the large), which truly lives up to its name, packing all kinds of ham, the cow’s tomme, and every imaginable topping!
"I want to pay homage to ham and butter and shine a light on Paris's culinary heritage through this shop," says JM. The sandwich is very generous; you can really taste the demi-sel farm butter, the Paris ham, and the quality of the ingredients justifies the price of a sandwich that is ultimately made only with top-tier (and French) products. It remains a high-end ham-and-butter, which explains the price; that said, if you're after more affordable equivalents, you can also find excellent sandwiches in our dedicated guide.
On site, Le Parizot also serves coffee as well as a sweet take on the sandwich, with hazelnut spread and butter (the “choco bread,” €5). All items are strictly takeaway, and a small shop of artisanal goods (which also changes regularly) offers jams, chocolates, syrups... Available for takeaway. A wonderfully chic spot to hurry to if you want to discover one of the best ham-and-butter sandwiches in Paris.
