A 500-square-meter rooftop with a bistronomic restaurant is taking shape in La Défense.

La Défense will host by 2027-2028 a new public venue at the top of the CB21 tower. On the menu: a 500 m² rooftop, a bistronomic restaurant with panoramic views of Paris, and new event spaces that aim to transform this iconic tower into a true hub of activity.

Fans of elevated spots will soon have a new address to add to their list. As the rooftops multiply across Paris, La Défense is gearing up to host one of the most ambitious projects of the coming years. The Covivio group has just laid out the broad strokes of transforming the CB21 tower, built in 1974. The goal is clear: turn this office block into a vibrant space, open to its neighborhood and accessible to the public, featuring a spectacular 500 m² rooftop, a bistronomic restaurant on the top floor, and several areas designed to host events, receptions, and meetings.

Long seen as a district that woke up mainly during office hours, La Défense has been undergoing a transformation for several years. Restaurants, exhibitions, cultural events, and new openings are gradually reshaping its image. This project sits squarely within that momentum, offering a venue that will not be reserved only for the tower’s staff, but also for passersby, Île-de-France residents, and curious tourists eager to discover another side of Europe’s leading business district.

The standout feature is undoubtedly the creation of a 500 m² rooftop. Covivio presents it as a one-of-a-kind space in La Défense, both for its size and the views it will offer over the capital. Nestled atop the tower, this expansive terrace will let visitors gaze at Paris from an angle rarely accessible to the public. From the Grande Arche to the historic axis linking the Champs-Élysées and the Louvre, the panorama promises to be particularly stunning.

The rooftop can be booked for private events, but it will also welcome the public. Great news for anyone who loves a terrace with a view, without straying far from western Paris. La Défense already boasts several compelling viewpoints, but there’s never before been a space this expansive at the top of an accessible tower for visitors.

Another highlight of the project is a bistronomic restaurant perched on the 41st and top floor. Once again, the view will be central to the experience. While no chef or menu has been announced yet, the concept promises bistronomic cuisine served in a spectacular setting. The expansive glass walls should provide an exceptional panorama of Paris’s monuments, day or night.

The project also includes the SkySuites, fully modular spaces spread across the 40th and 41st floors. These venues will host everything from conferences and receptions to film shoots, photo shoots, and other professional events. The program features, in particular, a striking double-height cathedral-style lounge, several reception rooms, a mezzanine, a bar, and two suite-apartments that can be converted into offices as needed.

This transformation was conceived by Covivio’s teams in collaboration with architect Nicolas Sisto. The goal isn’t to wipe the slate clean, but to preserve the architectural identity of this iconic 1970s tower while adapting it to new uses. The offices will of course remain, but they will now coexist with spaces open to everyone, in a far more hybrid setup.

Beyond its architectural silhouette, CB21 also aims to play a social role. More than 700 m² of the tower is already occupied by the DesCodeuses collective, backed by the Covivio Foundation. The association supports women from working-class neighborhoods as they move into digital careers through professional training. It’s an initiative Covivio intends to carry forward as the tower begins its new life.

This announcement comes as La Défense regains strong momentum. According to Covivio, more than 149,000 m² of office space have been leased there since the start of 2025, representing the district’s second-best ever performance by deal count. The CB21 tower epitomizes this rebound, with already 25,000 m² re-let since Suez’s departure.

Still, you’ll have to wait to discover this new perched spot. The various spaces will gradually open between 2027 and 2028. In the meantime, the renovation work will continue to bring this new hub of life to life, a place that could quickly become a must-visit for lunch or dinner, to watch the sunset, or simply to soak in an exceptional view of Paris from the heights of La Défense.

As it awaits its opening, this announcement confirms a growing trend: large office towers are increasingly aiming to become true urban destinations, blending gastronomy, events, entertainment and convivial spaces. With its upcoming 500 m² rooftop and its panoramic restaurant, the CB21 tower could well become one of the new places to watch in western Paris.
