Maison Lautrec serves hearty, inventive cuisine—almost bistronomic—in a retro setting just a stone's throw from Pigalle, delighting diners at lunchtime with affordable fixed menus as well as during the lively weekend evenings. A gourmand, relaxed spot with a few hidden corners!

In the heart of Pigalle, Maison Lautrec sells itself as a free-spirited “place to live,” shunning labels and the usual clichés. Yet the spirit of the restaurant’s modern bistronomique concept leaps out both visually and on the palate, with a festive, slightly intimate vibe that’s signature of the neighborhood—right down to the basement, which holds more than a few surprises!

We settle into a warm, almost family-like vibe, amid a vintage yet chic decor that feels like a Cuban living room. For lunch, the budget-friendly set menu (€25 for a starter and main or main and dessert, €29 for the full) makes it a great neighborhood spot, a welcome bonus as dishes outside the menu can quickly push the bill up.

On the plate, even as it resists being put into neat boxes, the promise of homemade cooking and of fresh, locally sourced ingredients is fully kept. The menu unfolds with flavorful, generous, and beautifully presented dishes, featuring ingredients partly sourced from a permaculture kitchen garden not far from the capital.

For a starter, the house focaccia hits the mark: served warm, it delivers a perfect contrast between a crispy crust and a soft, pillowy crumb, elevated by burrata’s freshness and a delicate, homemade fig chutney with tiny crunchy seeds.

We also tried the soy-glazed beef tataki, paired with crunchy radishes and a peanut sauce. The meat is famously tender and the pairing works, but the salty, thick sauce lacks a bit of lift, giving the whole thing a street-food edge, but still refined.

For extra freshness, the burrata with three beets hits the mark, pairing the cheese’s creamy, oily richness with the vegetables’ varied textures and colors, the yellow beet delivering a distinctive crunch.

When it comes to the mains, the house knows how to comfort. The lemongrass-seasoned beef kofta wins you over with its ultra-tender meat and smoky notes, paired with a warm, salty cheese naan, a tahini sauce, and roasted sweet potato for a satisfyingly rich, hearty plate.

If you prefer lighter, more vegetable-forward flavors, opt for the scallop risotto with zucchini purée: al dente yet creamy, with a refined balance between the cheese and the vegetable.

To finish on a pleasantly bright note, the Fontainebleau with red berries (blueberries, blackberries and raspberries) delivers a welcome acidity beside a thick, rich cream that somehow feels incredibly light.

The tarte au citron is fairly light, featuring a subtly buttery, crisp biscuit base and a delicious house-made meringue; the lemon cream, however, is quite sweet, which will delight some diners, less so those who crave the bitterness or a bright kick from a very tart lemon.

But Maison Lautrec doesn’t stop at the main dining room and saves a few gems to extend the experience. In the basement, a genuine little speakeasy, a nod to the neighborhood’s history, hosts private events for up to 60 guests, perfect for karaoke nights or more festive gatherings.

For a birthday or a private group meal from eight guests, the Table du Chef offers a 50€ per-person menu in a very intimate private space by candlelight, tucked behind the kitchens through which one must pass to access it!

Another playful nod that adds to the place’s charm: the possibility to craft your own rhum arrangé on site! If you’re after a romantic dinner in a hushed, intimate setting, steer clear of the place at the weekend—things heat up on Friday and Saturday nights with DJ sets and a romantic vibe, plus a cocktail bar that really comes into its own, even though the signature creations are always on offer (13 to 16€), as are the wines and beers.

A small hybrid, living gem to discover for a little treat, rooted in a truly beautiful seasonal kitchen, crafted with care, while keeping the neighborhood's friendly vibe!
