We set our forks at the very top of Cheval Blanc Paris, in the 1st arrondissement, to check out the Langosteria rooftop—a venue that doesn’t skimp on assets. Perched on the seventh floor of the former Samaritaine, this Italian restaurant focused on seafood unfurls a sunlit dining room and an open-air terrace, with the Seine as its backdrop.
In the midst of a heat wave, we savored a detail that makes all the difference: the room is fully air-conditionede. A way to enjoy the view without enduring the furnace of the scorching days, a real luxury in these times. This lets you enjoy the nice weather without necessarily suffering or eating in the sun as soon as the weather permits.
Facing us, the panorama does all the talking. The gaze slides from Notre-Dame to the Sacré-Cœur, sweeping the Louvre’s rooftops and catching the Tower of Eiffel along the way. Perched above the capital, the terrace feels like a high-altitude refuge, where time slows down for a lunch or a sunset drink.
For a few more days yet, you can spot La Caverne from above, offering a bounty of striking shots to take away.
On the plate, Langosteria delivers sunny, briny cuisine focused on fish, shellfish and crustaceans. We start off gently with carpaccios and crudos that are wonderfully fresh, before moving on to heartier pastas, like blue lobster linguine or seafood tagliatelle.
Indecisive when faced with the menu, we indulged in the tasting menu (€172 per person, to be shared), which takes you through the house specialties:
At dessert, we fall for the creations of Maxime Frédéric, the house’s pastry chef. His melt-in-the-mouth tiramisu wins everyone over, as does his stracciatella and his sublime Torta di Rosa, an Italian treat not to be missed.
On the drinks side, the cellar pairs top French vintages with excellent Italian names. And if you crave pure brininess, the bar à huîtres and its Sicilian shellfish platters (langoustines, gambero rosso, Gillardeau oysters) also take center stage.
We liked the service, both attentive and discreet, which prolongs that go-with-the-flow ease you associate with being at home. This elevated spot clearly caters to seafood lovers and to fans of gorgeous views, perfect for a chic lunch, a romantic dinner, or a sunset drink.
Let's be honest: you need the means to treat yourself to this view and this exceptional cuisine. The budget matches the setting and a five-star palace. It's a a great discovery to make for a special occasion, more than an ordinary dining spot. Unless you can afford it, we understand.
