Craving to get your hands dirty? Le Shakirail, a residence and hub for artistic practice, offers it in its garden during the warm months.

Love gardening but living in Paris? Even if it isn’t the dream setup for growing your own vegetable plot or having a proper garden, there are still several ways to get a foothold in gardening, learn how to sow seeds, or even cultivate a tiny garden on your balcony. From the Ecole du Breuil, a benchmark in the field, to the Maison du Jardinage et du Compostage, and the Musée Montmartre, Paris offers numerous places to deepen your love of gardens.

In the 18th arrondissement, the meetup is set at the Shakirail, a place of work and artistic residency housed in former SNCF facilities. The venue boasts a large garden of 2000 m², which regularly hosts workshops or participatory garden projects (mostly open to those aged 18 and over). Not to mention special openings, especially during the Rendez-vous aux Jardins or the Fête de la Nature.

Gardening workshops, including at the Shakirail Garden:

  • wild basketry workshop
  • mask-making workshop
  • charcoal drawing and sketching workshop
  • community garden work days
  • light-painting workshop
  • phonocène (or cyanotype) workshop
  • re-potting and seed bomb workshop...

The full details of the workshops, all free, including dates and booking procedures, are available in full on the Shakirail website.
