An oasis of greenery in the heart of a neighborhood that’s already perfect for a stroll: the Square Saint-Lambert offers scenic walks, an afternoon in the green within a spacious square, a pause amid the greenery with, in addition, the view of the Iron Lady.
Long ago, this is where the old gasworks of Vaugirard stood (according to the City of Paris); they operated until the early 20th century, which is why this area is listed among the historic monuments. The park bears the name Saint-Lambert, a medieval saint who is said to have been born in Maastricht and was assassinated in 705.
If this square is so beloved, it’s because it’s perfect for everyone: families and kids can freely enjoy the two playgrounds installed at its heart, with a sandbox and ping-pong tables, wide lawns for a nap in the sun and a little lounging on fine days, and the tranquil atmosphere that reigns there, whether you’re here to read a book or simply watch the big fountain. As a family, the square also features a carousel for the youngest, with a refreshment stand to grab a snack during your visit to the square.
Among the sculptures and notable artworks that adorn the square, you’ll find a large bas-relief signed by Auguste Guénot (situated at the entrance on the Mademoiselle street side) as well as a statue of two playful bear cubs (Oursons, by Victor Peter, 1928) and another depicting a wolf-dog (by René Paris, 1928). The other highlight of this neighborhood square is, without a doubt, its fan-shaped terrace, from which you can take in the upper stories of the famous Eiffel Tower.
Saint-Lambert Square is open every day, year-round, with hours that vary by season and month. A wonderful stroll to take in the 15th arrondissement!
