Ever heard ofÎle-Saint-Denis? It's this town, or rather, this crescent-shaped island in the Seine-Saint-Denis département. Several kilometers long, it was once a village of fishermen, boatmen and farmers, before being linked by bridges to the communes of Saint-Denis (93), Gennevilliers (92), Saint-Ouen-sur-Seine (93), Épinay-sur-Seine (92) and Villeneuve-la-Garenne (92). To the north of the island lies Villeneuve-la-Garenne Park, a beautiful 25-hectare green space managed by the département.
Bucolic, the Île-Saint-Denis is certainly so. At least when you know where to go for a walk, along the Seine, sheltered by the tall plane trees. Unsurprisingly, this is where you'll find one of the most little-known parks in the 93 region, the Parc de l'Île-Saint-Denis , with its wide open spaces, numerous picnic tables and children's play areas. Situated along the Seine - and above all, along the island - you can watch the barges moored in Gennevilliers on one side, and the barges sailing on the Seine on the other. The beloved home of Impressionist painters such as Berthe Morisot and Albert Sisley, Île-Saint-Denis pays tribute to this artistic heritage with a trail dedicated to them in the park.
Built in the 1980s, the park boasts a number of facilities, including playgrounds for children aged 2 to 12 (the Phare), theOlympus playground and water games (for ages 3 to 15), a fitness area, a soccer pitch, table tennis, a volleyball court and Teqball tables. In summer, special programming is offered in the park.
The park is accessible to people with reduced mobility and baby carriages, there's at least one water point and the site is open every day, all year round, with opening hours varying according to the season. Have a nice walk!
