Behind a discreet door next to the Arc de Triomphe, Haze takes over from UC-61, swapping the underwater ambience for a hushed setting straight out of the Roaring Twenties. A chic yet relaxed speakeasy offering exceptional, balanced and refined cocktails.

RememberUC-61, the bar with the submarine decor, a stone's throw from theArc de Triomphe? Well, it may have closed, but it's risen from the ashes in a completely different atmosphere. Well hidden behind a grey door, with a simple ringing button annotated with the bar's name, it's easy to overlook this bar on a quiet street adjacent to the famous Parisian monument. If it weren't for the sweet perfume on its porch, which draws us into its mysterious bosom...

An olfactory signature specially created by a perfumer who worked at Chanel, as a foretaste of the attention to detail at Haze, which aims for the relaxed standing of a palace bar. Behind the curtain, a dimly lit den, with red from floor to ceiling, even on the velvet sofas.

If at first glance you might fear you're in a swingers' club, rest assured, you're far from it, and the address is even very refined, offering sophisticated cocktails.

With pleasant jazzy music playing in the background, and the volume kept low so you can hear your friends chatting, the speakeasy was the brainchild of Hamza and Thomas, who have 22 years' experience of the nightlife scene at the Arc, the famous nightclub nearby. They are joined in this venture by Johann Bouard, the renowned mixologist who created the cocktail menu, each one more interesting than the last.

There aren't many cocktail bars in the area, unlike in Saint-Germain-des-Prés, Bonne Nouvelle or Bastille, for example. Over two windowless floors (which claustrophobes won't necessarily appreciate) and almost 65m2, the architect has played on the codes of the Prohibition era to reproduce a hushed, hidden, forbidden atmosphere, right down to the basement smoking room, in a Chinese salon style, inspired by opium dens, perfectly chic and warm at the same time.

The bar isn't very big, so if you want to enjoy a quieter, more intimate moment, prefer to come from Tuesday to Thursday, when the place is open until 2am, because on Fridays and Saturdays, the evening ends at 4am!

For the time being, there' s no finger food on the horizon, and we'll have to wait until the autumn to see what's on offer with the 10 signature cocktails, all priced at 19 euros. At the time of our visit, this single price was not indicated on the menu, which can be annoying for customers who don't have the budget. But the beautifully illustrated menu also conceals a few secrets, which can only be revealed under ultraviolet light, revealing two new cocktails!

A bright idea that we love, and which adds to the enigmatic side of the place. We recommend you let yourself be carried away by the expertise of the bartenders, because none of us regretted it!

Truly exquisite, each of these divine beverages proved to be perfectly balanced, with the perfect blend of each element that makes them up, to be felt successively blossoming on the palate. Some are more classic, like theEspresso Martini, frothy on the surface, or the Zebra Negroni, but others, like the Thomas Tini or the Hamzelnut, use less common flavors, like tomato, olive oil or hazelnut.

And you can feel that the products used are of the highest quality, as the taste of the tomato is so fresh and the hazelnut so gourmand. Others, like the Champagne Cocktail, are served in beautiful, elegant glassware.

A wide variety of beverages, well worth the high prices (linked to the district), with exceptional pairings, among which you're sure to find what you're looking for, whether you prefer fruity, sweet or bitter, to be enjoyed in an original setting in the heart of the Années folles.
