At Loufoque in the 9th arrondissement, it's not just about having a drink: it's about diving into an enormous collection of 900 board games. Whether you're into quizzes, adventures, or strategy, you'll also find cocktails and homemade dishes. Prepare for an evening filled with laughter and treats.

Just a short walk from the bustling Grand Boulevards, a vintage board game bar invites you to enjoy a cozy evening filled with the sounds of laughter and dice clattering on wooden tables. At Loufoque, which also has a spot in the 5th arrondissement, you'll feel right at home with access to a library of 900 games, all while savoring homemade dishes and sipping a cocktail.

Set against a that blends vintage charm with a Western vibe, guests settle into the colorful chairs and sofas scattered throughout the space. Then, they can select one or several games to enjoy the evening, all on the recommendation of the bar staff—knowledgeable, friendly, and eager to help make the night memorable.

If you have a question, they’ll definitely know the answer, and it’s quite impressive how they seem to have every rule of hundreds of games memorized! Plus, it’s really helpful for those who hate reading through eight pages of rules they can never quite understand!

Maxime, a former agronomy engineer, spent nearly a year working at the capital's first Loufoque bar before opening a franchise in the 9th arrondissement. An avid fan of board games, he then took over this space—already a game bar before becoming a franchise! It’s a meaningful transmission, keeping the playful spirit alive, with a real added bonus: a delightful menu of homemade dishes.

When it comes to games, we start with a short one that catches our eye with its stunning design: Les Toits de Paris. Very much in tune with recent events at the Louvre, it invites players to adopt a “stop or encore” style approach — trying to collect as many loot cards from the same collection as possible, all while avoiding the police inspector. The game hinges on luck and daring; you need to know when to stop and when to go all in for a daring move!

Meanwhile, customers can order the "Louf'croque", a croque-monsieur (€16) from the à la carte menu, featuring crispy, rustic sourdough bread. It’s served alongside generously topped smashed potatoes sprinkled with Parmesan, making for a truly indulgent treat.

Four hearty dishes (roasted Camembert, gnocchi, risotto) are on offer, along with a selection of tapas if you're aiming for a lighter bite. It's the perfect setup for a lively evening filled with good food and the satisfaction of a full belly, complemented by a beer or a small cocktail like the Bramble (€9.50), which is bursting with fruity flavors.

After satisfying our hunger, we move on to a more extended game that lasts nearly an hour — Rebirth. This game features a zone control mechanic that encourages players to rebuild a devastated world in Scotland. The goal is to advance as far as possible across the board, complete side quests, and strategically conquer as many locations as possible, leaving little behind for your opponent. You’ll take control of castles and cathedrals, so careful planning before each move is essential!

From the moment the game starts, the rules quickly become second nature, and you get drawn into the fun. Each person brings their own strategy—either opportunism or kindness—and both have their downsides! We play while finishing off our meal with a delicious chocolate fondant (€5.50) topped with whipped cream, though it wasn’t enough to keep us from losing focus.

During our visit, it was all about the latest game, which featured a contest offering a surprise prize for the highest score. Why not try your luck on the next game being showcased? To enjoy your evening and test out these games, plan on spending 6 euros per person. And of course, grabbing a drink is highly recommended — it's more fun and makes the experience even better, especially if you're planning to stay for a while.

There's a basement room available for private bookings, perfect for celebrations like birthdays. If you're planning to come with a large group, be sure to give a heads-up in advance to secure a table, since the space isn't expandab le. During the week, you'll definitely find more room than on weekends! Whether you're here with friends or family, whether you're quiz enthusiasts or serious strategists, seasoned players or newcomers, everyone will find the game that suits them!
