Fancy a weekday brunch or even after 3pm? We've got just what you need! Located in the 9th arrondissement of Paris, Cult is a delight for lovers of specialities usually served at brunch time on Sundays. But this coffee shop has had the (very) good idea of offering pancakes, eggs Benedict, coffees and detox juices at any time of day, between 8am and 6pm, and even on weekdays.
So there's no need to wait until the weekend for a gourmet brunch. Just head to Cult, not far from the Grands Magasins. But be warned, certain times are best avoided, or you'll have to be patient. Cult is a victim of its own success, and many people flock there at weekends, as well as during the week at lunchtime. On the day we came to discover the concept, it was midday when we pushed open the door. And there are only two tables available. From 12:30 onwards, a queue begins to form in front of the store.
It has to be said that Cult has what it takes to attract the curious. One look at the menu is enough to make you salivate. And we hope you're bilingual, because the menu is only available in English. Yes, Cult is very popular with tourists - English, German, Japanese... On this particular day, we only hear French spoken at one other table. One of the waiters tells us that it is (almost) essential to speak the language of Shakespeare to work here.
At Cult, the focus is on cosmopolitan cuisine, with a menu designed by Mateusz Ulman, a Polish pastry chef who previously worked in Copenhagen. Blending authentic flavors with Scandinavian style, Mateusz Ulman's menu features babkas, Basque cheesecake, scrambled eggs and avocado toast, accompanied by freshly ground coffee (sourced by L'Arbre à Café) or a comforting latte... All served by a young, dynamic team in a bright, streamlined setting with mirrors and ceiling moldings.
On our visit, we opt for THE best-seller: the grilled chicken and truffle sandwich. This gourmet Cult specialty is made with toasted sourdough bread, homemade pesto and thin slices of chicken browned in hazelnut butter. The whole thing is topped with parmesan and dipped in a tasty truffle mayonnaise. A must-try that we devoured and highly recommend!
Another popular dish with customers, and one that we also approve of? The famous, generous, soft brioche with eggs Benedict, served with homemade gravelax salmon, hollandaise sauce and salmon roe for extra crunch.
We decided to end this brunch on a sweet note with pancakes. Simple, but as effective as ever, they're served here with a piece of butter, mascarpone whipped cream, maple syrup and some fruit.
Cult offers a wide range of hot and cold drinks to accompany brunch, including latte, macchiato and matcha latte, all of which are delicious. For more originality, opt for the cardamom-pink latte or the Indian-inspired karak chai(milk, cardamom, ginger, cinnamon, sugar and vanilla). As for juices, Cult is sure to wake you up with a carrot, orange and ginger beverage!
So, why not succumb to Cult's all-day brunch? Join us every day from 8am to 6pm for a sweet and/or savoury break that's sure to be gourmet and cosmopolitan.
