We take you on a tour of Pépé Ronchon'sbrand-new Italianbrunch in Paris's 9th arrondissement . We tell you all about this gourmet brunch for €29. This authentic Neapolitan pizzeria at 31 rue Saint-Lazare, which has already been wowing diners with its pizzas since January 2020, unveils its new weekend menu. The team has decided to bring their Neapolitan savoir-faire into brunch mode, with products sourced directly from Italy. We unveil the menu of discoveries!
For €29, the menu includes a choice of 2 savory plates, 1 classic pizzetta (with a €4 supplement for a special), 2 sweet plates and 2 drinks - one hot and one cold. We start by choosing a hot drink, then a cold one, between fresh orange juice or Bellini.
What we really liked was the 3-tier display of all the specialties. Everyone has his or her own display, so you can eat at your own pace and share without stepping on each other's toes. You can start with the warm pizzetta before moving on to the mozzarella or focaccia. In short, you can start brunch any way you like - it's the weekend, after all.
For our part, we set our sights on the stracciatella with its tomato caviar, creamy to perfection, and theassortment of 3 bruschettas available in three versions: mozzarella-tomato-basil, ricotta-honey and a third just as tasty. We also chose the caponata with its grilled eggplant, capers, tomatoes and olives, a little trip to Sicily that awakens the taste buds, and the mozzarella di bufala accompanied by Parma ham, arugula and cherry tomatoes, a timeless classic.
As for the pizzettas, we fell for the El Pépé with its fior di latte mozzarella, mortadella, pistachio cream, 24-month parmesan mix, DOP pecorino Romano, extra virgin olive oil and crushed pistachios. For this choice, add €4 to the price. We also tried the Napoletana with its traditional Neapolitan tomatoes, Cetara anchovies, capers, black olives, oregano and extra virgin olive oil. Beware, this one is really for anchovy lovers only, as the taste is very pronounced and authentic, just like in Naples.
On the savoury side, there's no shortage of choice if you want to vary from our selections. Stracciatella with truffle is a popular choice, as is the Parma ham chip version of burrata. Cheese lovers will turn to the platter combining provola, gorgonzola and 24-month Parmesan, topped with fig jam, while the charcuterie assortment celebrates the flavors of mortadella, bresaola and 24-month Parma ham. Special mention goes to the stracciatella e verdure with artichoke, eggplant and zucchini, perfect for vegetarians.
The signature pizzetta is available in all menu versions. Classics include marinara, margherita, capricciosa and four-cheese. For specials at extra cost, the Molto Bene with 24-month Parma ham and burrata is also a hit, as is the truffle pizza with IGP bresaola and mozzarella di bufala. All are prepared in the pure Neapolitan tradition in the Manna Forni artisan oven that sits in the middle of the room, guaranteeing the fine dough and soft crust for which the establishment is renowned.
To end on a sweet note, we wanted to taste everything. The homemade tiramisu, with its coffee-soaked savoyardi, creamy mascarpone and cocoa, turned out just the way we like it: well-balanced. We were also tempted by theaffogato, a homemade mascarpone ice cream drowned in espresso (to be ordered at the end of the meal, unless you want to start with that). We found the crisp, gourmet Sicilian cannoli a little thick and not very sweet, while the focaccia topped with hazelnut and pistachio cream would have deserved even more pistachio and creaminess. If you prefer panna cotta with a coulis of the moment for added freshness, it's also on the dessert menu.
For hot beverages, you'll find a fine assortment of teas (jasmine, green, earl grey), coffees in all their Italian variations (espresso, strong, americano, cappuccino, latte or chai latte) and hot chocolate. As for cold drinks, you can choose between freshly squeezed orange juice or bellini with peach cream and prosecco, perfect for adding a sparkling touch to this Sunday get-together.
Unlike many of the capital's Italian restaurants, Pepe Ronchon accepts reservations, so there's no need to queue. The room is on a human scale and feels like home. Contrary to the name of the establishment, the service is not grumpy and you have a good time.
This new Italian brunch formula is in line with what the company has been offering for the past five years: authentic cuisine based on fresh produce from sustainable agriculture, with DOP, IGP and Slow Food labels. Franck, the founder, who trained in Naples, has always been committed to respecting Neapolitan tradition from start to finish, from the flour of the Neapolitan mill to the premium products selected from small producers. This philosophy of sharing and generosity also characterizes Pepe Ronchon Vino, the little sister wine bar opened in 2023 on rue de Montyon.
To enjoy this gourmet Neapolitan brunch, head to 31 rue Saint-Lazare in the 9th arrondissement, between Notre-Dame de Lorette and Gare Saint-Lazare. The restaurant is a stone's throw from Galeries Lafayette and Opéra Garnier. Single price of 29€ for the complete formula, with a supplement of 4€ if you want a special pizzetta. Don't forget to book on 01 73 75 54 89 or via the official website to secure your place.
In short, if you're looking for a good Italian brunch in a relaxed atmosphere with real produce from the boot, Pepe Ronchon ticks all the boxes for a successful gourmet weekend in the 9th arrondissement.
