At Chapon in Saint-Germain-en-Laye, hot chocolate is a real experience. The company works with rare cocoa beans from Venezuela,Ecuador, Peru, and Madagascar, and you can taste the difference. You can choose between three versions: water-based for a pure, intense flavor, milk-based for a smoother taste, or spiced for a warm touch. Right now, the Christmas spice version is a hit with those seeking comfort on cold days. The white chocolate vanilla is also very popular with lovers of delicate flavors.

What we loved at Chapon was their old-fashioned hot chocolate, served in a chocolate pot for two with whipped cream and spices. This option costs €15 and is a true tribute to the French chocolate-making tradition. It's a bit like old-fashioned luxury revisited by Chapon. In fact, only shops with tea rooms offer this service, such as Saint-Germain-en-Laye and Boulogne-Billancourt. Elsewhere, you can enjoy classic hot chocolates to take away, but not this version in a chocolate pot, which is what makes the experience so charming.

To accompany these hot chocolates, we tried the trio of mousses, which takes you on a journey through different origins of cocoa. Our favorite? The version with no added sugar, which lets the chocolate speak for itself in all its purity. This mousse bar is a concept that Patrice Chapon developed in 2006, and the idea is simple: choose your cocoa origin as you would choose a grand cru. Madagascar, Ecuador, Venezuela, Ghana, Peru... there's enough to take you on a world tour of chocolate flavors.

Another gem at this address is the homemade waffle, exclusive to Saint-Germain-en-Laye and found nowhere else. Filled with a homemade spread called "démonique" (demonic, and we understand why, as it's truly addictive), it's one of our favorite treats. The marquise is also easy to devour, and the macarons (available in five flavors) are a sweet treat to take away with you. For dessert, you can also choose from ice cream sticks, chocolate mousse cups with your choice of topping, and mi-cuit to share if you've come as a couple.

Beyond the tea room, the shop offers the entire Chapon range: dark chocolate bars made from beans selected from around the world, elegant gift boxes, chocolate bonbons with a variety of textures, and spreads. Chapon controls every stage of production, from bean to bar, in its roasting workshop in Chelles. This bean-to-bar approach, developed since 2012 by Patrice Chapon, a former Buckingham Palace ice cream maker turned master chocolatier, guarantees exceptional quality and unique chocolates.

The gourmet options allow you to customize your break according to your desires. For €11, the option includes a mousse of your choice, two macarons, and two chocolate bonbons. The gourmet coffee and gourmet tea, priced at €12 and €14 respectively depending on the drink chosen, offer a great way to discover several creations in a single visit. The teas on offer include classics such as Earl Grey and Ceylon with red berries, as well as more original options such as sencha and rooibos with orange.

The drinks menu features organic juices from Specht and freshly squeezed orange juice. The atmosphere of the tea room invites you to take your time, far from the hustle and bustle of Paris, in an ambiance that celebrates French chocolate craftsmanship. Its proximity to the Château de Saint-Germain-en-Laye and the national forest makes it an ideal gourmet stop after a stroll in the Yvelines.

In short, if you're looking for a great place to discover the excellence of French chocolate in a pleasant setting, Chapon in Saint-Germain-en-Laye is well worth a visit. With its comforting hot chocolates, intense mousses, and exclusive waffles, this establishment celebrates cocoa in all its forms with passion and expertise. A wonderful outing for food lovers in the Yvelines.
