Located opposite the Jardin Villemin, in the 10th arrondissement of Paris, April Café has been delighting the curious as well as regulars since it opened more than three years ago. At the helm—or rather, behind the espresso machine—Priscilla, a neighborhood resident who opened here a place she dreamed of: a space in her image, but above all, open to everyone.
"After my daughter was born in 2019, I felt a bit lonely in Paris; it was hard to find a cafe that ticks all the boxes," explains the founder of the cafe. No changing tables, no space for strollers, no room for kids who don’t always stay in their seats… Then, after a vacation, a bit of luck: the now-spot for April Café was up for grabs. So the idea emerged to create a stroller-friendly cafe, but not just that: a place for everyone, not only for families. A spot to come for a tasting, to drink a coffee while teleworking, to lunch with a 100% homemade menu, and if there are children, to enjoy activities, games and coloring pages to keep them busy during this quieter moment. By the way, April is the English translation of the month of April, a nice wink to the birth month of Priscilla's daughter.
On the menu, you’ll find a tasty lineup that’s completely homemade (except for the pastries from a local bakery) and made with seasonal ingredients. When the weather heats up, the standout is the vegetable tian-style tart, or a refreshingly tomato soup. Year-round, the gourmets rave about the ciabatta—a sandwich blending stracciatella, homemade pesto, and rocket—and the toastie (think grilled cheese). For dessert, there are indulgent options like cookies, banana bread, a brownie, pastries, affogato in summer, or healthier choices such as yogurt with granola. All savory offerings are vegetarian, and some of the sweet treats are gluten-free (ask on site). Expect 4.50 to 8 € for savory dishes and 2 to 6 € for desserts and cakes.
When it comes to drinks, you truly have plenty of options with a full coffee menu (hot or iced), lattes (sesame, chai, golden...) and other cappuccinos, plus a selection of teas or matchas (mango, strawberry, coconut...). Not to mention fresh-pressed juices and other smoothies to give your morning a vitamin boost. Kid-sized drinks are also available, including a babyccino, a small smoothie, etc.
Expect to pay about €2–€4 for a kid-sized drink, around €4.50 for a cup of tea, roughly €5.30–€6 for a matcha, €2.20–€5.60 for coffee or a latte, and €4–€6 for a smoothie or a fresh-pressed juice.
A charming spot that feels like home, worth discovering near Gare de l’Est station.
